W W F is a global organization acting locally through a network of family offices. All these offices do all they can to halt the accelerating destruction of our natural world. The World Wildlife Fund WWF has been working towards conservation in Chile for several decades. In the 1970s, we supported the establishment protected areas of the National System of Protected Areas SNASPE and the development of conservation capacity in Chile. In the 1980s, we collaborated in some of the first studies on the status of the huemul Hippocamelus bisulcus and the pudú Pudu pudu, two endemic deer species. In the 1990s, we started to apply a model of ecoregional conservation which involves the coordination of research and planning between Chile and Argentina. In 2002, the WWF Valdivian Ecoregion Program office was officially established in the city of Valdivia.
